Celebration helps us honour excellence. This week, we are celebrating Black brilliance, honouring the excellence, creativity, leadership, and impact of Black individuals and communities across generations.
Students are exploring Black excellence through a wide range of activities, including music classes and “Black Brilliance” music brackets, studies of French- and Spanish-speaking Black artists, and research projects that highlight contributions in the arts, culture, science, and public life. Many schools are sharing student learning through assemblies, classroom spotlights, and creative displays that celebrate achievement and identity.
Celebration is also happening through shared experiences and events. Schools are hosting Black Brilliance assemblies for students of all ages, along with cultural food fairs and celebration days that honour the richness and diversity of Black cultures. Student voice plays a key role in these celebrations, reminding us that Black brilliance is not only something we learn about, it is something students live and express every day.
