This week, students and staff across the Upper Grand District School Board are getting ready to stand up to bullying on Wednesday, February 25 for Pink Shirt Day.
Pink Shirt Day started almost 20 years ago as a day dedicated to raising awareness for anti-bullying initiatives and promoting a healthy self-esteem for everyone.
The day began in 2007 in Nova Scotia when two students rallied their school together to stand up to bullies who were making fun of a boy who wore a pink shirt to school. The students came to school the next day with 50 pink shirts so that groups of students could wear pink in solidarity with their bullied classmate.
At the UGDSB, we aim to provide a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students. Information about bullying prevention and awareness at UGDSB can be found on the board website, including resources for parents and caregivers and our Online Bullying Reporting Tool.
UG schools are encouraged to let us know how they are celebrating Pink Shirt Day. Don’t forget to send us any photos that are taken on Pink Shirt Day or tag us on Instagram using @uppergrand.
