Registration for the Upper Grand District School Board Living Classroom Personal Support Worker (PSW) programs will open Monday, March 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. for the September–June 2026 intake.

Offered in partnership with local healthcare organizations, the Living Classroom model allows students to learn directly within real healthcare environments while working alongside experienced professionals.

Two program locations are available:

  • Guelph – St. Joseph’s Health Centre:

    100 Westmount Rd, Guelph, ON

  • Fergus – Wellington Terrace (Wellington County):

    474 Charles Way, Fergus, ON

Personal Support Workers play a vital role in the healthcare system, providing care and comfort to individuals in long-term care, hospitals, and private homes. The Ontario government estimates up to 24,000 new PSWs will be needed by 2026, highlighting strong employment opportunities in this field.

The 38-week program (September–June) includes classroom instruction and 330 hours of clinical placement. Graduates earn PSW certification, CPR and First Aid certification, and Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA®) training in dementia care, along with valuable hands-on experience and employer connections.

Applicants must be 18 years or older, demonstrate adequate English proficiency (CLB 6), and attend a mandatory information session to be eligible to apply. A diagnostic assessment and interview are part of the selection process. Approximately 23 applicants will be accepted, with a waitlist maintained.

Applicants will also be required to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check, physician’s clearance, and up-to-date immunization record.

Course materials fee: $200 (tuition fee to be confirmed)
