Shealteile B., a student at Centennial Collegiate Vocational Institute, was recently selected as the recipient of the "Hackergal x RBCx Future Tech Leaders Scholarship".
This scholarship is a national award that supports girls and gender-diverse students in pursuing careers in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). It is awarded to up to two Canadian secondary school students who have participated in Hackergal programs, such as the Hackathon or National Ambassador Program.
This scholarship recognizes students who demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion in the tech industry, take initiative as leaders in their communities, and work to create opportunities for others. Applicants are evaluated based on their application responses and reference letter, with all submissions reviewed anonymously by a selection committee.
Shealteile was selected as a recipient of the $5,000 Hackergal Scholarship. This award is intended to support her post-secondary expenses. The selection committee highlighted her experience, passion for STEAM, and commitment to diversity and inclusion as key reasons for her selection.
According to Shealteile, “Every girl* deserves the chance to explore technology with confidence. I hope to keep creating spaces where girls* feel supported as they grow into STEM and discover their potential.”
Congratulations, Shealteile, and best of luck in your post-secondary education.
