This year, between June 1 to 5, the Upper Grand District School Board will be joining school boards across Ontario for Bike to School Week.
Bike to School Week is an annual celebration of biking to and from school. Parents and caregivers can use this week to encourage their child(ren) to ride a bike to school during the week or if that is not possible, to bike more on weekends and time away from school.
Active for Life has prepared many tips that parents and caregivers can use when preparing their child(ren) for biking adventures.
Tips include:
Safety First - ensuring that your child(ren) are wearing properly fitted helmets
Helping your child brush up on their biking skills
Ensuring your child(ren) are wearing appropriate clothing for biking, no loose pant legs that could get caught in the gears.
Helping your child(ren) to find a safe biking route to and from school
Ensuring your child(ren) has a bike lock and knows the combination, so that your child(ren) can secure their bike at school.
