Two students at NTS DramaFEST provincials

Students from the John F. Ross Collegiate Vocational Institute’s production of Here’s What You Missed recently represented their school at the Ontario NTS Provincial Showcase at York University, where they performed alongside 11 other student productions.

While at the competition, students also participated in theatre workshops, panel discussions, and professional learning opportunities with artists and educators from across Ontario. According to John F. Ross CVI teacher Meaghan Lugsdin, “Throughout the week, the cast and crew demonstrated exceptional professionalism, creativity, and collaboration, serving as outstanding ambassadors for their school community.”

While at York University, Here’s What You Missed earned two provincial awards:

  • Outstanding Stage Management — Greta Z.

  • Outstanding Direction — Grace M., and Quincy K.

The Outstanding Direction award is an amazing feat for students, as the production took home the Outstanding Direction award from all three levels of competition this year - district, regional, and provincial. Lugsdin said that the “Provincial adjudicator Mike Payette, Artistic Director of Tarragon Theatre in Toronto, praised the students’ work and talent during the showcase.”

Following the success of this production, the show has also been invited for an additional community presentation on June 13, 2026, at Knox Presbyterian Church as a pay-what-you-can event. For more information about this event, please contact Meaghan Lugsdin directly at meaghan.lugsdin@ugdsb.on.ca.

Congratulations to all students and staff who were involved with this production!
