A photo of Amaya

On Thursday, June 3rd, Princess Margaret PS was honoured to welcome back Upper Grand District School Board student and author Amaya J. The school was fortunate to host Amaya four years ago when her first book was released, Afro No! and welcomed the opportunity for students to reconnect with her now that she has published her second book, Emmie’s Next Chapter.

Students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 gathered in the gym to hear from Amaya during her inspiring author talk. She shared several important messages, encouraging students to follow their passions, do what they love, and always ask themselves, “Why not me?”

Amaya spoke about her writing process, her motivation for becoming an author, and how books are developed and published. She also read a portion of her new book. Amaya even signed copies of her book for students and staff.

Princess Margaret PS students thoroughly enjoyed the presentation and asked thoughtful questions about her journey as a writer, as well as about the possibility of a third book in the future.

Amaya’s visit truly inspired our students, reminding them that anything is possible with hard work and passion.
