It was recently announced that Daniella C., from Orangeville District Secondary School was named as a recipient of the $100,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship to study at the University of Toronto.

According to the Schulich Foundation, “these prestigious entrance scholarships are awarded to 100 high school graduates enrolling in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) undergraduate program at 20 partner universities in Canada. Every high school in Canada can submit one Schulich Leader Nominee per academic year based on academic excellence in STEM, entrepreneurial leadership, and financial need.”

This year, a total of 100 scholarships were awarded - 50 engineering scholarships valued at $120,000 each, and 50 science, technology or math scholarships valued at $100,000 each.

When Daniella starts at the University of Toronto, she will be pursuing a double major in Computer Science and Cognitive Science.

When thinking about learning the news of this scholarship, Daniella said, “It was honestly a bit of a shock; I still can't believe it even now! I celebrated by spending some quality time with my family, sharing the news with them, and going out to a special food place that I’ve been going to ever since I was a kid.”

Daniella continued to say, “I just want to express how incredibly grateful I am for the immense support from my teachers at Orangeville District Secondary School, my community, and my family.”

Congratulations, Daniella, and best wishes as you enter your post-secondary studies!
