The Upper Grand District School Board is deeply saddened by the death of a student in our school community following a motor vehicle collision over the weekend. 

On behalf of the entire UGDSB, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the student’s family, friends and loved ones. Our thoughts are also with the students, staff and members of our school community who are grieving this loss.

We know that the death of a young person can have a profound impact on a school community. Grief affects everyone differently, and students and staff may experience this loss in different ways. Some may have known the student well, while others may be affected by the news or the circumstances surrounding it.

Our Mental Health and Well-Being and Student Support Services teams are working closely with our schools to ensure students and staff have access to counselling and other supports. These supports will continue to be available in the days and weeks ahead.

Out of respect for the student and their family, we will not be sharing additional details.  During this very difficult time, we ask our community to respect the privacy of the student’s family and those who are grieving.

Our deepest sympathies are with everyone affected by this tragic loss. As a school board, we will continue to care for and support one another through the difficult days ahead.
