In September, the Rotary Club of Erin presented Erin District High School with a donation of $3,000 to help support the school’s Grade 9 Camp.
Each year, EDHS hosts a camp to help new students begin their high school journey by connecting with other students and giving them the chance to build friendships. This year, 175 EDHS students from grades 9 and 12 attended the two-night camp at Camp Pine Crest, which is north of Gravenhurst, Ontario.
The donation from the Rotary Club of Erin allowed students who face financial barriers to attend the camp.
While at camp, students are completely device-free, which allows for face-to-face connections with their peers and a break from phones and social media. Students at the camp participated in nature walks, ropes courses, archery activities, and much more.
Grade 12 students who attend the camp do so as mentors, and guide new students in making connections with peers, the way they did when they attended the camp in grade 9.
According to the Rotary Club of Erin’s statement, this contribution to the school was made possible by the generosity of the sponsors at their Family Day event.
