A photo of four ODSS students with their Bickle replica

Each year the CWB Foundation honours secondary welding students across the country with the Forged by Youth Award. This award highlights the creativity and skill of students in schools and helps support technical education.

This year students at Orangeville District Secondary School took home the top prize! Richard Alexander’s class at ODSS won first place with their entry of a 1931 Bickle fire truck replica.

Decades ago, the Orangeville Fire Department retired the 1931 Bickle fire truck, but this year Alexander’s class brought it to life again when they created a small-scale replica of the vehicle. The class created the replica with as many of the original details as they could with the material they had.

The finished piece has red wheels and an open cab to reflect the original Bickle. The class intends to display their replica at the new Orangeville Firehouse.

Congratulations ODSS for achieving first place with your replica!
