This new policy addresses the board’s overall data governance and security practices to ensure the appropriate use and protection of data. This policy is in part a response to the Government of Ontario's newly enacted Enhancing Digital Security and Trust Act, 2024, which aims to strengthen cyber security, improve data protection, and support the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the public sector, including school boards.
Policy 324 outlines a comprehensive framework through which the board commits to ensuring that digital technologies are safe, secure, and able to support student learning while enabling efficient board operations. Policy 324 integrates provisions currently found in Policy 318 Responsible Use of Digital Technologies, and will act as an overarching policy that defines the data governance and security foundation. Multiple procedures will be developed to operationalize the distinct areas covered.
This policy is important to UGDSB staff, students, and families because it ensures the board's digital environment is safe, secure, and supportive of learning.
