On February 5, locations around the Upper Grand District School Board are turning down the heat for National Sweater Day.
Celebrated yearly on the first Thursday in February, National Sweater Day is a great way to learn about the importance of saving energy. By lowering the heat by 1 or 2 degrees on National Sweater Day you can make a big impact. Wearing a sweater is an easy, visible way for students and staff to learn about energy use, climate action, and how small choices can make a difference.
In conjunction with National Sweater Day, UGDSB schools are taking part in a Sustainability Challenge focused on reducing energy use.
While students and staff take action in the classroom, there are many ways to encourage reducing energy consumption at home too.
How families can take part at home
Families are encouraged to join the challenge in simple ways:
Wear a sweater and turn the heat down by one or two degrees
Turn off lights and electronics when they’re not in use
Use natural light during the day when possible
Talk together about how saving energy helps the planet and our community
Even small changes, when practiced every day, can add up to meaningful impact.
Let us know how you’re working to reduce energy consumption or send us your sweater pictures on Instagram this National Sweater Day by tagging @uppergrand.
Let's work together to reduce energy consumption and care for the environment, at school and at home.
